Located in Suite 100 on the first floor of the 1560 E. Maple Road building in Troy, Michigan, Summit Surgery Center began completing outpatient orthopedic surgical procedures in the summer of 2021. It includes two operating rooms and private patient care suites for patients’ preparation and recovery.
The staff of Summit Surgery Center brings multiple years of outpatient surgery experience to create a patient-focused, efficient, and safe environment. Summit staff members receive ongoing training on emergency preparedness, infection control, quality, privacy, and safety.
All clinical team members maintain Basic Lifesaving Skills (BLS) certification, and each registered nurse, nurse anesthetist, and anesthesiologist maintains Basic Lifesaving Skills (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Dr. John Samani, M.D.
Summit Surgery Center Founder & Medical Director
As the founder and sole owner of the Institute for Athletic Medicine in Auburn Hills, Michigan since 2000, Dr. John Samani saw the need for enhanced expertise and efficient care within an ambulatory surgery center setting.
As a result, he founded Summit Surgery Center in Troy, Michigan, in May 2021 to provide more comprehensive services for his patients and other surgeons’ patients throughout metro Detroit.
Dr. Samani has been studying and specializing in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine since for more than 35 years.
After completing his undergraduate education at the University of Nebraska, he received his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1990. He then gained specialized orthopedic training during his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Vermont.
Today, he cares for adolescent, high school, collegiate, and professional athletes from all over the state of Michigan and the Midwest. As the team physician, Dr. Samani takes great pride in providing orthopedic and sports medicine care to Clarkston High School athletics for more than 20 years.
Throughout his career, he has been an instructor to medical students, orthopedic surgical residents, and other orthopedic surgeons, and he has hosted lectures and clinics in Michigan and nationally.
Dr. Samani has served as the director of the Michigan Knee and Shoulder Fellowship program, and his work has been published in “The Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery,” “The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery,” and “The Journal of Hand Surgery,” as well as in the “The Upper Extremity in Sports Medicine” textbook.
Dr. Samani and his wife of more than 30 years, Miriam, are the proud parents of four children.
