Following are basic procedures you can expect. We will communicate with you regularly to ensure we answer your questions and provide guidance for any specific needs you may have as well.
Before Surgery
You will receive three phone calls from Summit Surgery Center.
- Insurance Verification: Our insurance team will call to confirm your insurance and discuss any payments that may be due on the day of surgery.
- A nurse will call you 3-7 days prior to your procedure to review your health history and give you specific instructions for your procedure.
- You will receive a call the day before your procedure to remind you of your procedure and provide you with your arrival time.
Please make note of the following recommendations as well:
- Do NOT eat or drink anything 6 hours prior to arrival time to the surgery center.
- Follow the nurse’s instructions on which medications should be taken the morning of surgery with a small sip of water.
- Please consult with your surgeon and physician regarding stopping any blood thinners (Coumadin, Plavix, Aspirin, etc) as these products may need to be stopped 5-7 days prior to surgery.
- Patients should wear loose and comfortable clothing that is easy to take off and put on, as you will be changing into a hospital gown while you are at the center.
- Please make sure to have your driver’s license or other form of identification, insurance card(s), and list of current medications and dosages.
- Please leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
- You must have a support (adult) person with you who can drive you home after your procedure.
Day of Your Orthopedic Surgery
Please arrive at the time specified to you.
Parking is available on the north and south side of the building. Enter the main lobby and follow the signs to the surgery center.
Please sign in at the registration desk and a receptionist will get you registered.
A nurse will then escort you to the preoperative area and begin prepping you for your procedure. Your support person may wait in the lobby.
You will meet with the anesthesiologist, who will review your health history, do a brief exam, and discuss your anesthetic plan with you. A surgical nurse will come and meet you and will take you to the operating room.
After the Outpatient Procedure
The surgeon will talk with your support person immediately after your procedure, and the nurses will monitor you until you are ready to go home.
When you have met the conditions for discharge from your surgeon and the center, you will be able to be discharged.
The nurse will review the home care instructions with you and your support person, who must drive you home. We recommend that an adult stay with you for the night after your procedure.
A nurse will call you the next day to see how you are doing and answer any questions you may have.
If you have an emergency after the center is closed, please call your surgeon, go to the nearest emergency room, or call 911.
